Well said. I too am having problems -- it's not letting me download Poseidon. I've heard it's a terrible movie so one could argue that it's doing me a favor, but hey, I'm just trying to check this service out -- I was pretty stoked on it at first.

Basically it downloads between 1-2% and then simply throws an alert message saying that the download failed. The funny thing is that it's a popup alert message so it fades away after a few seconds (similar to achievements or when a friend pops online). Since I was leaving the machine alone so it could perform it's massive download, I never saw the message! A little frustrated, I decided to hang out to see how long it would transfer before it died out. At last, I observed the message. However, it's totally useless because it provides no debugging information. In addition to showing percentage of download complete, why doesn't the XBox 360 also allow you to see download rate?

Now, it seems that the server is rejecting my download requests outright and won't download anything at all.

I was also very disappointed to see that most of the content is not even HD yet! There's maybe 5 titles of 70 or so movies offered. Most are DVD quality. How could they not offer the Matrix in HD for launch? Disappointing. I was also expecting a bigger library.

At any rate, I haven't tried calling yet. I'm already dreading it based on your experience. I suspect that will come next week. I do think it's embarrassing for Microsoft to have not staffed up appropriately for this. I feel like there's performance problems with the service in addition to the technical ones. Microsoft has done great work on the 360 so far, but if they fail to impress with this roll-out, they'll be shooting themselves in the foot.

Dude, Just for the record, I haven't had the problem with Customer Support like you have had but I will tell you that I've been trying to download teh HD version of V for Vendetta now for 2 days and it's still chugging along. I have a dedicted 6Mbps DSL line coming into my home (avg. DL speed of 4.5 Mbps) and today i'm still only at 43% downloaded. I'm starting to realize that this server is going to absolutely SUCK unless they can get the speed issue worked out. Oh, and there isn't an issue with my DSL, I can download other HUGE files much, MUCH faster on my PC than on the XBox.

Good Luck!

So...I tried the download service too...I have 15meg/sec connection and I tried to download an HD movie, and it took around 30 minutes to reach 1 percent. Crazy. Netflix would be quicker than this! They have some major bandwidth issues.

I had a similar issue downloading an episode of South Park. I got that nag message you got. All I had to do was click on the episode I wanted to download again, told it to re-download the episode (as it recognized I had purchased it), and left the 360 alone for a good hour or so as it slowly downloaded the episode again.

After it downloaded, the 360 said something in the details area for the show that was something like "no license detected". Once I clicked on the show to start playing it, it went onto the servers and grabbed a playback license for the show.

I swear it took minutes just to get to 1%.

Downloaded two rentals last night. Both screwed up and I had to redownload a couple times. No big deal for me. I knew the severals would be clogged anyway. I left the movies to download overnight and this morning I had three to watch. (standard).

why rent hd for 6 bux and wait days for it to download. just download ur movies at torrentspy.com for free. the hddvd copies will show up there soon enough.

you can stream movies from pc to xbox too, which is much more logical. Why download to xbox hdd that thing is way too small.

I guess I'm not a believer in paying for movies anymore. forgive me.

I've had similar download issues here as well. I started downloading a HD movie yesterday afternoon and 24 hours later it was at 20%...yeah, major speed/bandwidth issues. They need to fix this service because in it's current state it is useless.

Again - I'm not having a slow download problem.
My download never started.
If it was SLOW, I wouldn't be complaining. I understand, and I would wait.
If I could RESTART it, I wouldn't be complaining. That would make sense. I would just retry until I got it.
If I had GOTTEN A REFUND, I wouldn't be complaining. I would be be trying to rent the movie again.

But I can't restart without forking over more money.
And I can't seem to get a refund without spending more time on phone, than I will end up spending watching the movie.

That's just bad.

Yeah... they obviously underestimated the amount of server capacity they would need. That or they're waiting for the rush to end before they decide what servers they need.

Fuck this melochy, MS failed horribly to deliver their service. While I was in playtest watching these movies the download speed was still bullshit, and that was simply of their PartnerNET servers. This service is worse than getting stuck in the water temple. Cockfags.

I've run into customer service issues with just about every company that I have ever had to call about customer service... Alienware... Apple... Dell... many airlines...

All I have to add is that rolling out right before a holiday was not the smartest thing to do. A problem like this can turn a fan, frusterated.

I hope your taken care of and don't turn your back because of a pour timed release of a new service and what is most likly a higher than expected demand on it.

I'm not familiar with the problem you hit, but I beta tested the movie rental system a few weeks earlier. V for Vendetta did take me about 6 hours to download (I'm on a 12Mbps connection) hich is about 2.3Mbps, and seeing how it being launch day and everyone's trying it out, there servers might be hosed would be my opinion.

[...] The two biggest questions since Microsoft announced its Xbox Live Video Marketplace have ben: 1. does anyone still has enough space on their Xbox 360’s 20GB hard drive for movie downloads in high definition? and 2. does anyone — even the guys at Redmond — have enough bandwidth to feed the HDTVs of millions of Xbox Live subscribers? Since launching two days ago those questions have been answered with a yes and resounding no, respectively. Users have complained of slow downloads that time out, receiving different files than the ones they requested and being charged twice when trying to complete timed-out rental downloads. Major Nelson has chimed in on the issue, letting us know that the company is aware of the problem and will refund Microsoft Points to all those who call 1-800-4MYXBOX for assistance. Good luck with that, though, as at least one person was told there aren’t any managers available to refund customers until after the holiday weekend. So while network engineers and management sleep off yesterday’s turkey and camp out for cheap plasmas, you may want to hold off trying to download Clash of the Titans in 720p ’till things get straightened out.[Thanks, WiFiSpy]Read - My Xbox 360 video rental nightmareRead - Video Marketplace Status [...]

I do not have an Xbox, but I do like the idea of downloading movies. I have downloaded about 10 movies from Itunes that I play on my Imac. The downloads have taken about 30 minutes each. Now I realize that they are not HD and the resalution is about as good as regualr TV. But I sure like the download time and soon will have the convience of watching on my TV as opposed to my computer. Never once problem with the service. I think that Microsoft has a winner with the Xbox service but with limited HD space and what appears to be poor planning as usual, Apple will soon have all the Duck lined up for a true High Def solution for downloading if the initial Itues service is any indication. I watcing my movies now not waiting hours for delivery.

I have had nothing but problems with video downloads. On November 26, I had 480 points vanish for a failed download. Called support, over 1 hour later, received credit back after talking to a nice rep. She stated they were having problems, but try again in 24 hours.

After 30 hours I try again. Same problem as before, download fails, points are deducted, call customer service. This time it only took 40 minutes on hold to reach a rep.

This time I am asked by Isabel, how are you connecting? I said I am using the wireless connection , and she immediately had an attitiude, and informed me I can only connect directly with a wired connection. She continued to scold me about how I was connecting, and informed me she would note on my account that I had been "warned" not to connect wirelesly.

I asked her to explain to me why I had not been told of problems on the previous call. I also asked her to explain why Xbox live website did not inform me of any problems, or why I had not received Email of said problems. I told her that they had sent me plenty of Email advertising the new service.

She stated that she did not have to explain anything to me, "just don't use it the way you are".

At this point I explain I don't care for her attitude and ask her to cancel my Xbox live account.

She said she could not do this, I had to be connected to the account department.

This took about 20 minutes to be connected to accounts. This person was sympathetic to the situation, but gladly cancelled the account.

I sent Microsoft email telling them what happened, and that I was giving up on them as a gaming company.

I did receive a generic reply after 2 days, that they had recieved my comments, blah blah blah.

I have disconnected my Xbox 360, and will not support Microsoft as a gaming company due to this terrible customer service.

I pity you david as MS dont give a $hit and you got a 360 without using it on live it's best feature. Now they laugh at you, didnt you have to pay for the full year anyway so to cancel didnt cost them anything as you already paid for the rest of the subscription.

Unlucky you noobed it up harcore stylee.
